This calculator was designed to help the Civil Air Patrol Aerial Photographer be able to quickly calculate the distance to the photo target in nautical miles based on the altitude of the airplane.
To use, simply enter the altitude of the aircraft in Feet Above Ground Level (AGL), select your output precision and press 'Calculate.'
The degrees are as if 0° is straight down from the plane and 90° is looking straight out. For example, 20° would be 20° from straight down.
